Spain has been ranked as number one in a list of the worlds best tourist destinations in a recent report from the World Economic Forum, naming the country as the world’s most safe, clean and affordable holiday destination.
Published every two years the report entitled “The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017” measures the health of the tourism sector in 136 of the worlds leading countries based on a variety of factors including safety and security, soundness of infrastructure, health and hygiene and price competitiveness.
Achieving high scores for both cultural and natural resources (ranking second and ninth respectively) along with air transport and tourism services, Spain topped the list for the second time, thanks largely to the amount with which the country recognises and priorities it’s own tourism industry.
The report also notes the countries boost in tourism due to travellers, concerned about security issues, avoiding the middle east and certain western European regions.
Already on course to exceed last years record breaking tourist visitor numbers, Spain beat France and Germany to the top spot with Japan taking fourth place and the UK trailing in fifth.
