A new study published in the British medical journal, the Lancet, has place Spain as in eighth position in a worldwide ranking of healthcare systems.

Spain has one of the best and most affordable healthcare systems in the world
Assessing the healthcare provisions of 195 countries, the Healthcare Access and Quality Index (HAQ) study measures a variety of factors relating to mortality rates that would not normally prove fatal provided effective medical care is available.
The analysis records worldwide improvements in death rates caused by thirty two recognised illnesses and conditions over the twenty five year period between 1990 to 2015. As you would expect during this period, aside from a limited number, the standard of healthcare has improved in the large majority of countries assessed.
Spain ranked in eighth place scoring an impressive 90 points out of a possible maximum 100, beating Italy and France who scored 89 and 88 points respectively, along with Greece (87), France (86) and the UK and Portugal who tied on 85 points.
Scoring 95 points, Andorra came in top of the charts, Iceland and Switzerland took up 2nd and 3rd positions with 94 and 92 points. In fact out of the top 15 placed nations, only Australia in 6th place and Japan in 11th were the only countries outside of western Europe.
