The number of registered holiday rentals has surpassed that of hotel beds in both Málaga and Marbella as the growth in the industry continues.

The number of hotel rooms in Málaga and Marbella has been surpassed by that of private holiday rental properties
According to recently published tourism statistics the number of holiday rentals, which have been regulated since 2016, have increased more than double over the last fifteen months, however hotel occupancy rates have remained largely unaffected. Despite this remarkable growth hotel occupancy rates averaged 90 percent during August and are predicted to remain healthy during September.
There are currently 9,143 hotel beds in Málaga city in comparison to 10,985 beds in rental properties, in Marbella the difference is even greater with nearly 4,000 more beds offered in private rented accommodation than the 12,276 hotel beds.
In contrast the bastion of the hotel industry, Toremolinos, is holding strong with only 725 properties offering less than 3,000 beds have so far been registered in the town.
