During the first three months of 2018 Málaga airport, gateway to the Costa del Sol, witnessed a 7% increase in passenger numbers.
In the first quarter of this year the number of passengers passing through Málaga airport reached a total of 3,193,468, growth of 7.1% compared to the same period in 2017. The number of flights to accommodate these travellers arriving and departing from the Costa del Sol totalled 25,398, itself an increase of 6.7% compared to last year.
During the month of March the airport was Spain’s third busiest, behind only Madrid and Barcelona, recording 9,942 flights carrying 1,294,374 passengers, again representing increases of 8.7% and 7.9% respectively. Of those, more than one million travellers originated from overseas.
The peak of operations during this period was March 31st with 449 registered flights carrying 60,791 passengers during the 24 hour hour period.
With several new long and short haul routes to Málaga, plus the planned improvements to the airports second terminal due to commence soon, all signs are pointing towards 2018 being another record breaking year for visitor numbers.
