The latest phase of the Senda Litoral de Málaga, the coastal pathway which will stretch the entire Costa del Sol from Nerja to Manilva, has been given the go ahead.
The ambitious project to create a seafront promenade that runs the entire province of Málaga, utilising existing seafront promenades and new pathways, will benefit a total of 14 coastal municipalities along the Costa del Sol.
Already being enjoyed by active walkers, joggers and cyclists, the first section to be completed links La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol and Calahonda in Mijas Costa to Cabopino in the eastern edges of Marbella.
Expected to be completed in 2019 the walkway will start (or finish!) at the Balcón de Europa in Nerja, stretching 160km through Málaga city, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas Costa, Marbella, Puerto Banús, San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona all the way to Puerto la Duquesa in Manilva.
At a cost of 400,000€ the latest 16 km long stretch of walkway between Benalmádena and Fuengirola will allow pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the coastal views whilst travelling between the neighbouring towns.
Both Mayor’s of the respective towns, Victor Navas and Ana Mula, highlighted the importance to the tourism industry of the coastal pathway.
