Recent figures published by National Institute of Statistics (INI) reveal the number of Spanish home sales recorded in the Land Registry in April of this year grew by a staggering 31% compared with the same month in 2017, with more homes selling in Andalucía than any other region.
In total, 42,014 Spanish homes sales were recorded during April, 6.2% greater than the previous month, however this growth can partly be blamed on seasonality with Easter 2017 falling in March and in April this year.
Andalucía, home of the Costa del Sol, topped the rankings in terms of properties purchased per region with 8,181 home sales transactions registered during the month. Next on the list came the Community of Madrid recording 6,648 home sales, followed by Cataluña (6,521) and Valencia (6,172).
Encouragingly every region in Spain witnessed year-on-year increases during April with home sales in Málaga (Costa del Sol) grew an impressive 62%. The provinces of Tarragona, Barcelona and Girona found themselves at the lower end of the rankings, most likely caused by the ongoing political situation in Catalonia, however almost every region recorded double digit growth.
All in all the figures for April paint an encouraging picture for the Spanish property sector’s continued and sustainable recovery with strong growth in demand from both homegrown buyers and international investors.
