Official figures released by the Spanish Notaries’ Association reveal the number of home sales in Spain increased 11% in January.
Traditionally a slower month for home sales, January marked the ninth consecutive month of growth in Spanish home sales with a total 38,953 transactions during the month, an increase of 11.2% compared to January 2017.
Growth was recorded in all categories with apartment sales up 9.2% and new apartment sales up 11.8% whilst the number family home sales increased 19.6%.
Of the homes sales recorded in January, the percentage purchased with a mortgage was also up 14% with 18,047 transactions utilising mortgage financing.
Increasing steadily since 2013, the number of recorded homes sales now stands above those of 2009, however the figures are still 30% lower than the pre-crash boom of 2007, similarly house prices, which have witnessed a gradual recovery over the same five years, are still 30% below their peak.
