Málaga airport, the gateway to the Costa del Sol, reported another impressive increase in passenger numbers during November with just over one million passengers during the month, 8% growth compared to November 2017.
During November of this year a total of 1,150,161 passengers passed through Málaga airport representing year-on-year growth of 8%. The airport handled a little over nine thousand flights during the same period, itself representing year-on-year growth of 8.9%.
Passenger numbers increased on both international and domestic flights with 933,679 travellers arriving from outside Spain, an annual increase of 7.7%, whilst the domestic market grew 10.2% with a little over 200,000 arrivals from within Spain. Similarly, the number of flight arrivals and departures handled by Málaga airport increased for both international flights and domestic flights which saw 9.7% and 11.8% growth respectively.
With almost three hundred thousand passengers, the UK maintained the top spot as the number one source/destination of travellers passing through Málaga airport. Second and third on the list in terms of passenger sources were Germany and the Netherlands with 97,386 and 65,791 passengers apiece.
The airports busiest period was the first weekend of the month with 420 flight arrivals and departures on Saturday 3rd and 53,351 passengers, the highest witnessed throughout the month, recorded on the following day.
Year to date, between January to November of this year some 17,916,787 passengers have travelled through the Málaga – Costa del Sol airport, an increase of 1.6% compared to the first eleven months of last year. The number of flights handled by the airport also increased 2.5% with 132,090 arrivals and departures during the same period.
