During 2016 the Costa del Sol broke tourism records attracting over five million visitors and seeing record numbers of overnight hotel stays.
Tourists have long been coming to the Costa del Sol for a variety of reasons, be it the sunshine, beaches, golf, culture, food or fiestas, as Spains visitor numbers soared last year, so to did the Costa del Sol’s recording a 5% increase in the number of both Spanish and international visitors compared with 2015.
According to figures released by the Costa del Sol Tourism Board, demand for hotels within the region was at an all time high in 2016, which for the first time ever welcomed over five million travellers within the twelve month period.
The all important international market recorded an increase of 11.5% accounting for 61.8% of total visitor numbers.
The British love of the Costa del Sol shows no sign of abating despite Brexit and a weakened sterling with the number of Brits booking into hotels in 2016 growing 13.1% compared to the previous year, totalling an unprecedented 1,013,161 stays of one night or more.
