University friends Lisa Walker and Zara Quli decided to fly to the Costa del Sol when they discovered that two return flights to Málaga would be cheaper than one round trip train ticket.
Lucy from Newcastle had intended to visit Birmingham for a reunion with her friend Zara but was shocked to find that a return ticket for the round trip between the two cities would have cost a whopping £105.
Looking for alternatives Lucy, who teaches English as a foreign language, was able to book a flight from Newcastle to Malaga for just £19.98. The pair then found a second flight from Birmingham to Málaga for £55.29. The two flights to the Costa del Sol cost them £75.27 still almost £30 less than the rail ticket.
Swapping the delights of the midlands for the Costa del Sol’s winter sunshine, the girls were reunited in Málaga on January 7th and spent three days enjoying the 20ºC weather in southern Spain.
Taking advantage of the traditional free tapas delivered when you order drinks Lucy explained “Everything is cheaper out there, lots of things that add up in the UK, like the transport to get from the airport into the city is just one euro eighty, about £1.50” going on to add “It works out a lot cheaper when you go out for a drink too – it’s only about two euros for a bottle of beer which is a lot cheaper than over here and by the time you have had a few drinks and the tapas you are stuffed for the price of one cocktail in London.”
