Marbella witnessed record tourist numbers this June registering an impressive 30.5% increase in tourism compared to the same month in 2016.
Recently released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) the figures show Marbella received 97,766 tourist visitors during the month, the highest figure since records began. José Bernal, the Mayor of Marbella, defined the results as “historical and an example that the policies of the local government are the right ones”.
The figures for both Spanish and international visitors increased with the number of national tourists increasing 28.23% and travellers from other countries up by 31.08%.
The number of overnight stays increased by 30,000 totalling over 333,000 during the month, representing 10% year on year growth. Again overnight stays increase for both national visitors (18.5%) and those from overseas (8.38%).
Bernal commented that “Marbella is stronger than ever” pointing out that the record tourist numbers mirror the towns positive employment figures with June being “the best month for employment in the last fifteen years in the municipality”.
